NO SPOILERS! This review is spoiler free! I have been waiting, rather impatiently, for this book to come out. It was worth the wait. I love R.R. Haywood's writing style, how he provides depth to the characters through their dialogue. The way he writes the conversations when the characters are in a group setting is exactly how conversations go, the main topic starts the discussion, then someone starts a side conversation, followed by one of those side-conversationalists jumping back into the main conversation without skipping a beat. I love that. It's real. It also leaves me shaking my head at the absurdity of it, but also totally understanding it and loving every minute of it.I really enjoyed the additional character development, and the expanded set of characters (or, rather, more development of characters introduced in the previous books.) I love the twists and turns. My first comment upon reading through the first few chapters was, appropriately, "Oh, sh*t!" Those of you that have read the book will get the double entendre with that comment. :-)I was not disappointed with this book. Rather, I am super excited about it and may read it again. I can't wait to see what else R.R. Haywood has up his sleeves. I'm very much looking forward to more of his books.
Wow. So much to say, and so hard to say it without spoilers, but I'll try. This book was so good. I went back and forth from laughter to heart-pounding anxiety and back again in the space of a page. My favorite thing about this series has always been the relationship between the characters and the way they interact, and this book does not disappoint there. My one complaint is that there are a few unresolved threads left at the very end, but I don't consider this enough of a problem to subtract a star from my rating. I think this was supposed to be a trilogy, but I feel like the door has been left open for a fourth book, and I truly hope we get one.10/10 would recommend
Seriously, just when you think you know how this will end, RR Haywood does a couple of things that leave you smiling and wishing there would be more before ending this book and series. This is definitely one book and series that will keep you up reading until you get to the final book and the very last page and then wishing there would have been one more book in this set. I loved this story and it's one that I will recommend to everyone I can. Also if anyone is questioning why all 3 books in the series were reviewed right after each other is because I went against my one need to keep rule. That rule to do the "review" right after each book is read, was tossed to the side, as again this was one series that I have previously mentioned, that I could not put down, so alas, here I was at the end of all three books, so then my reviews were properly done. This I do not recommend to others to do, because before you know it, you will have one, two or even many other books read from other Authors then you will have to go back and finish each review or worse, have to re-read the books before writing the reviews, as all the Indie Authors that write books and have them out on Kindle, they all deserve to have their books reviewed and posted by the reader. Which thank God I did not have to do with this series, as it will stick with me for a very long time.
I read this book in one sitting. Loved the characters, the non-stop action, the great banter, and the fact that it made me think to keep track of the differing time lines. I think I followed them all. I laughed out-loud at some passages, was in tears at others. However, I was unfilled at the end--too many loose threads. It felt like there would be another installment, but this is called a trilogy. We never did find out what Mother's real goal was--there was one hinted at. Kate and Alpha are left hanging. Miri talks about everything they still have to do--at the very end! And, of course, we don't know what happened to 2111, except maybe by the title of this book.I loved the series. The writing is unusual--not all grammatically correct, but the style suited the high impact of the story.I don't like loose ends, therefore 4, not 5.
Whenever a storyline flows through multiple books, the expectation is that the final book will bring closure. If not a definitive end, then at least a solid leaving point where you can in your mind see where the characters are going and be happy. This is not the case with Extinct. I use the word "Disappointing" because I want more and I know that 1) there won't be more and 2) even if there were, there is no final book, final page that would not leave me wanting more and therefore disappointed. And THAT is why I rate this book a solid FOUR STARS!! The very concept of this story means that there can never be a final outcome. Had the author fashioned one, it would have stripped his work of any reality, logic and believability. My sincere appreciation goes to RR for leaving me so very, happily disappointed!
Absolutely amazing entry into a superb series!! I couldn't believe how exciting this entry was!! Couldn't put it down it was sooo good!! the culmination of the protagonists work was mind-blowing. A lot of answers were left hanging so I'm assuming that there will be additional installment/s of this series (There just HAS to be!! :-). So much happened in the story to keep your interest going, and there were those amazing twists and turns to shock you and keep you turning the pages. This installment (as well as the other two books in the series were s good I'm waiting on the movie to come out on it)!! Superb from book 1 to the end of book 3 although I haven't heard if this story will continue, if it does I'll be the first to buy the next entries!!
