Great autobiography of one of the greatest saddle bronc riders in the history of the sport. Ian Tysan, the Canadian singer & songwriter, wrote a song about Casey Tibbs that encapsolated his career. Casey was one of a kind as Ian said in his song, "there will never be another one like him" and there never has been. This book is a must read for anybody who's heard the name Casey Tibbs and wondered who he was.

I loved this book. It was a delightful read and I learned so much about Casey Tibbs. Some of the pranks he pulled made me laugh out loud and the end made me cry. I am now interested in reading more about the old timers in the rodeo world.

I finally got the full story of Casey Tibbs, and the time of his death.Good read

A very good book about a great man. I really liked it. I'll read it again someday.

Great Rider and showman

I used this book for research on a book I was writing on rodeo and rodeo riders. Good info and extremely helpful into their lifestyle.AMAZON PURCHASE REVIEW.

I LOVED this book. Partly because I had heard stories about Casey Tibbs and I also have been around rodeo for a long time. Casey had a rough upbringing to then excell in the sport of rodeo and to also be a driving force in making rodeo what it is today. If you like cowboys, rodeo and their way of life be sure to read this great book.

Enjoyed it

Okay, so almost nobody buys this book to "read" it. This is an English translation produced by a New York university library of the original Germanic text of Aristotle which is his oldest known "complete works of". This is a reference text for people who study Philosophy, and because I study Philosophy I snagged the opportunity to buy this pre-loved book. The printing is of fine quality, the paper is lovely, and the overall condition of the work is good. This book has made life much easier for me, because I can use it to reference large tracts of Aristotle in my papers, and has proved valuable in researching obscure course material on topics, such as "Metaphysics" - directly from the source (something not even many lecturers actually bother to do) which allows the researcher to better understand both source and derivative material, and accurately emplace historical context on their own products. My personal view on reading this material is that it is very old, densely packed, difficult to understand, and the lay reader will require some considerable grounding in both the known facts of Aristotle's life, as well as the subject matter he works with before attempting to tackle it on their own. This is very literally from the birth of Philosophy as a field of study, and Aristotle, like Plato, considers the field of Philosophy through the practice of pure reasoning from first principles to the be the absolute pinnacle of human intellectual achievement. Mostly dialectic in style, it is a great accompaniment to a "Complete Works of Plato" on any bookshelf. Be fairly warned though, if someone sees this on your bookshelf and questions you about it, attempting to talk about Aristotle's reasoning without having actually read any Aristotle will make anyone, however learned, look and feel like a pretentious fool. However, if you can get into it, there is SO much to love about Aristotle's philosophical work. The power of the man's mind is amazing, his reasoning skill is scalpel-sharp and rarely if ever does he waste words. The work (and wit) are of first-rate quality, throughout the entire text. This book can be opened to any page at random and provide enough to absorb, discuss, and research for great lengths of time.

This book seems to be a collections of text files of Aristotle's writing. As far as I can tell there is no structure to how they are organized. I did not see a table of contents either so it is very hard to find the interesting writings in this collection.

Required text for ethics class. Tough read. Often confusing, occasionally redundant but I suspect that's because so many principals have been incorporated into western social philosophy as a whole. Wouldn't reread it if you paid me to, once is plenty.

Came in splendid condition, and is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to get into Aristotle's works. Important texts come complete, and some "not so important" texts come in portions, takin' out some unnecessary bits. Good good good.

Great

Of Aristotle's works, I offer no critique; what could I say that has not been said more clearly and elegantly by reviewers more expert than I on the subject? Beyond the incredible historical and cultural import of the works, the fact that the writings of a scientist and philosopher who lived some 2300+ years ago resonate so clearly with the modern reader speaks to their brilliance--even in the cases where philosophical and scientific advances made some ideas outdated. Instead, I critique this particular volume, which in my mind has several strengths and weaknesses.Strengths: As others have noticed, this is the best one-volume compilation of Aristotle's works. In terms of cost and convenience that makes this an attractive work. For someone interested in the full scope of Aristotle's works, this would be a nice version to have.Weaknesses: I cannot read the original Greek to compare the translation to the original, but in English, the translation can come off as a bit dry, dated, and uninspired. For me, I also missed the lack of introductory material or other commentary on the works, which are quite difficult for the general reader. In retrospect, as I was interested in gaining in-depth exposure to some of Aristotle's "greatest hits" rather than the entire magnitude of his works, I probably would've been better off buying a smaller number of works separately. Greater cost would've been outweighed by the greater commentary which separate works could've provided. For people reading this material as part of a class, this might not be an important weakness, but it is important for readers like me attempting to gain some insight to the wisdom of Aristotle through independent study.A version with definite pros and cons; I believe its utility depends on the intended usage and the existing familiarity with Aristotle's works of the reader. I believe this version is very good on its own merits, but again as a more general reader looking for exposure to the philosophy of Aristotle, I don't know that this was the best version for me. I am not too proud to admit that as a newcomer to Aristotle I would have enjoyed a little hand-holding as I navigated his philosophical realm for the first time; buying separate versions of his works might've been best. However, for the reader looking for a one-volume version of Aristotle's works, this is the version for you.

Aristotle for many good reasons remains the "grandfather" of philosophy and it's obvious to see why. These works contain the basics of Aristotle's writing in a good, lucid translation. It goes without saying that understanding Aristotle is key to not only understanding Western history but also also world philosophy in general. The truths that he spoke of 2000 plus years remains true and highly relevant to this day.

Great anthology work!

If you’ve seen the Discovery Channel show “Dual Survival”, you’re familiar with Cody Lundin. He’s the one who looks like a hippie and is always barefoot. “98.6” is a book designed to prepare readers for a wilderness survival situation. To be clear, this book isn’t about going out for a six week trek. It’s about going out for a day hike and finding your foot stuck in a bear trap or having your jeep washed away in flashflood. It’s about how to stay alive for as much as a few days while search and rescue teams are looking for you (and how to make sure they do look for you.)As the title suggests, Lundin focuses on the issue of maintaining the body’s core temperature as the key to short-term survival, and special attention is given to the subjects of hypo- and hyperthermia. Besides dressing appropriately, maintaining core temperature involves requirements such as hydration that may not seem relevant at first blush. The heart of the message is that one has to plan for the worst even on apparently mundane treks or drives into the backwoods. Lundin hammers home the importance of letting others know where one is going and by when one will return. However, the bulk of the space is devoted to suggestions about what to pack in your survival kit.Lundin takes a light-hearted tone while talking about the dire nature of survival in the wild. Many of the graphics are quirky, caricaturesque line drawings (there are also photos--mostly towards the rear of the book in the discussion of gear and kits.) His writing style is conversational—which is to say that he writes like he talks. While this may induce rage in English teachers, I find it’s only problematic if it leads to misunderstandings. (i.e. In conversation there are fewer opportunities for misunderstanding because there is non-verbal communication and the potential for feedback.) Having said that, I can’t recall any cases in which meaning was unclear, so either Lundin is conscientious about this issue, or his editor did a good job of maintaining his style without losing clarity. The conversational tone involves a lot of analogies and metaphors that are sometimes humorous but sometimes over-the-top.Lundin’s advice runs toward the pragmatic and the frugal. Survival gadgetry and gear is a huge industry, and Lundin’s guide helps a budget-weary amateur outdoorsman know where it’s worth spending a little extra and where it’s likely to be a waste of money. (In some cases, spending more money will leave one worse off in more areas than the pocket-book.)Despite his folksy tone, it’s clear that Lundin is no stranger to science. One thing that one will get in his guide that’s uncommon in others is scientific explanations--in lay terms--of why some methods or equipment will or won’t work. This ranges from the physics of space blankets to the psychology of fear to the chemistry of nutrition.Another strength of this guide is that it gives due attention to the crucial nature of the mind in survival. There are a few early chapters devoted to this. Many guides might give a paragraph to the subject before plowing into survival methods. The problem is that some people may die overwhelmed and unable to keep all that knowledge straight. Tips about keeping one’s head seem worth the space. In addition to the use of humor and anecdotes, there is a clear attempt to make the information memorable. Lundin uses mnemonic devices to help people ingrain information, and frequently recaps important points. He also has a “Cliff Notes” version at the back of the book that condenses his message down into a few pages. If you like to spend time outdoors, I’d recommend you pick up this book. Of course, reading a book is not going to keep you alive, you have to practice with the gear you assemble, but the book is an important first step.

I heard about Cody years before he published this book. Friends at Prescott College told me about this guyliving in the Desert and attending school. I was intrigued because of my own association with Tom Brown. Some years later, I was considering doing a Masters at Prescott myself. But my interests had always remainedwilderness survival. In an Interview with some Admissions Counselor, we went round-and-round. Apparently, she was unable to grasp that my interest was applying wilderness survival into a Masters Program even though -at the time - Prescott advocated a self-directed approach to Graduate Education. Trouble was this was all talk.I was re directed into a more status quo outcome and told Cody was not on the graduate faculty and so just forgetmy plans of working with him. Well, that did not go over too well so I went to grad school elsewhere.Fast forward present day. I got to watching Cody's show Dual Survival and loved it. This led me to his two great books.Needless to say, Cody covers exquisitely everything one will encounter in wild places with astonishing depthon everything from physiology, to what to expect, and prepare for. This is a great book. And Cody is one of the rare few in this world of equivocation and double-speak worthlistening to. The book is well written and embraces a philosophy of the Free Spirit in its utter fullness! Those who understand and know what I speak will flock to the philosophy Cody presents.

Short Version: Buy the book. Read through it once fairly quickly. Wait two weeks. Then read through it again slowly. Take notes. Obtain the materials he suggests. Practice with the materials. Find out what works best for you in each category. Continue to experiment. Wait two weeks, read through it again. Continue to experiment. And build your own personalized survival kit using what you have learned. You will then have a kit that you know how to actually use. It will be tailored for what you actually do. Continue to experiment every chance you have. Have 3 ways to start a fire. Have 3 ways to gather and disinfect water. Learn how to build simple shelters. Learn how to use an emergency plan. Use an emergency plan for every outdoor adventure. Follow the plan. You will enjoy the outdoors more and worry less. Go live!

The book, “98.6 degrees the Art of keeping Your Ass Alive,” by Cody Lundin, is one of the best survival books I have seen. There are a lot of important lessons in the book but I think he hit the bullseye when stating the prime importance of maintaining a positive attitude. He keeps it simple by focusing on the main problem in a short term survival scenario of keeping your body temperature at 98.6 degrees which really helps minimize the amount of gear in a survival kit by keeping what is truly important. The vast majority of the time (97 percent), people are found within 3 days of searching and Cody’s small kit size reflects this, plus other factors like his expertise. One should keep in mind, however, that the 4.2 pound kit component list on page 133 doesn’t include the weight of stuff like the fanny pack, 2 one quart canteens of water, a multi-tool, extra flashlight with batteries, etc, so even if you are as knowledgeable as Cody Lundin, you will almost certainly be carrying more than 4.2 pounds worth of gear. That being said, his book does put into perspective about gear that doesn’t involve regulating your body’s core temperature as being unnecessary for most short term survival situations.
