Grotowski has picked up at the end of Stanislavski's work, which only stopped evolving because of his death, and Jerzy Grotowski has expanded on those ideas and brought new meaning to physical actions. Thomas Richards explanations of how Grotowski and the Labratory Theatre's work taught actors like himself to embrace physical actions in a powerful, intense way is truly inspiring. This book is a must read, particularly in conjunction with "Towards a Poor Theatre" by Grotowski for any person working in modern theatre.

For anyone interested in getting more information on Grotowski, this is of course a must-read, although occasionally the humility with which Richards infuses his prose borders on making it a must-slog-through. In a way, it's appealing that Richards tends to describe only his own work - only the things that he himself did, but I tend to find the descriptions fuzzy. I often felt the descriptions of exercises or actions were not concrete enough for me to imagine them; this is by no means a practical handbook.Having said that, it is an excellent read for probably every serious actor, who will recognize in Richards' frank account their own mistakes, frustration over lack of discipline, and impatient desires to be brilliant. Definitely inspiring, occasionally repetitive or unclear.

This is a fascinating book on the Grotowski method of acting work. It is very well written and a must read for anyone in the acting profession and of interest to others who are curious about the creative process.

This is an interesting look at the development of dazzle camouflage, and the artists who were most responsible for it. It would be a good addition to any military or art enthusiasts library. As a model builder, I'm finding a lot of inspiration in the book.

Being of, ahem, sound mind and body, this is coolest book I have bought in a long time. Lavished in illustrations and thought that transcends Dazzle as single concept of war, but as art. Brilliant

I cannot rave about this book enough. I had been acquainted with most of the principles in this book over the last few years including the key concepts that urges are junk, my true self is habit free and peaceful, and that I was capable of not acting on urges. But this book really pulled this information together in a concise and insightful way. I've struggled with eating disorders (all types of compulsions around food) for 30 years and after reading the Brain Over Binge Recovery Guide (by Kathryn Hansen and includes chapters by Amy Johnson) and then immediately this gem (The Book of Big Change by Amy Johnson) I believe all of my several, tiny "insights" became a huge revelation! As the author points out: as my perception changed then my approach to my urges was immediately less fearful, and then my habit changed. I feel like my non-serving eating habits ended yesterday after finishing the book. Nothing physically changed but my approach to my life is different. I cannot rave enough about this book.Again, I'd like to stress that the concepts in this book were not "new" to me. I first read the first edition of Brain Over Binge (by Kathryn Hansen) about three years ago and have been using buddhist philosophy as a practical guide in changing my behaviors. BUT this book (The Little Book of Big Change by Amy Johnson) just solidified it for me. I'm now looking forward to my urges!! Where before I was absolutely terrified of them. This is nothing short of amazing to me. I no longer have "powerless" feeling over my urges.I also see how the techniques in this book easily lend themselves to all habits not just my obsession with food. Thank you for this book!

This book is amazing. Probably haven't felt my perception altered this much since reading "power of now" by Eckhart Tolle. This book actually has very similar concepts, but they are explained in a way that is very well-grounded, concrete, and irrefutable. Sort of like a down to earth spirituality, but with a focus on habits (mental and behavioral). But the lessons learned here apply to everything in life.Also, she was super helpful in a follow up email I wrote with specific questions. She just exudes a "labor of love" attitude with this stuff. Incredible! Highly recommend.

This is such an important find for me. No matter what your habits are, Amy Johnson does a wonderful job of getting you"to see the light". Meaning, what is really driving your behavior. For years and years I felt completely at the mercy of my habits. Thinking I was abnormal, not being able to control myself in certain situations. (I have a few vices so I'm being non-specific for that reason). I no longer feel controlled by my urges. Now I can see them for what they are-just vaporous, passing clouds of thought that dissipate as quickly as they come. The trick here is to recognize a thought as just that-a thought, nothing more. Your thoughts cannot force you into action and if you just hang out in a non-judgmental way, not giving attention to the unwanted thought, it just goes away on its own. Nothing else needs to be done. It seems so simple it's almost stupid, but it's a fact. I sit here right now bewildered as to how I wasted absolute years of my life trying tomanipulate and control my habits, when all I had to do was; LET IT GO. If you don't believe me, read this book. If your mind doesn't see things differently at the end, start over and read it again. You probably won't miraculously change over night because old habits form such deep neural pathways, but as you practice the pause in action, change comes on pretty quickly. I'm actually surprised at myself everyday now. Even though I'm not exactly where I want to be yet, I can enjoy where I am and that is huge. I accomplished more in 2 weeks than I have in 30 years. Dr Amy Johnson has multiple free videos on You Tube that compliment this book wonderfully that helps get you just that much farther. Since purchasing this gem of a book, I have since done one of her priceless online classes and currently am enrolled in her online coaching class. You can also go to her website and sign up for her emails. About once a month you receive a newsletter chock full of helpful information. Best thing about this author is that she truly, without a doubt has helping people as her number one goal. She has an incredible amount of free information available to everyone. Wow, this book helped change my life! I finally get it! My 25 plus years of weight loss and gain, yo yo, binge eating struggles are not about me being weak and having a disease, it's just been me on a diet that set up my little lizard brain to keep yelling at me to stay on a crazy ride. I thought my urges to binge were part of me that I started and could never be free from. After reading Amy's words, I see now that those urges are innocent messages and they are not me, and they have no power to make me binge. I can dismiss thoughts, habits, urges, to binge, online shop, judge co- workers, yell at my husband, etc. They are just habitual thought, and come and go like the weather!! My gosh, what freedom! I stopped obsessing about the number on the scale, and started eating healthy whole foods, and the occasional treats, and when the urges come up suggesting the idea to eat the entire box of sonething- I know it's just my old animal brain trying to be helpful ( no thanks). I move on and dismiss the thought instead of getting hijacked by it, like I did before I got this awesome insight. And! If I do overeat or shop online and buy crap I don't need, so what, I do not have to beat myself up and I can still move on. This beats anything and everthing I have tried in the past! My daughter and I love reading this book together. The artwork is childlike and pretty captivating. It captures the wonder and simplicity of the song. Though my daughter is outgrowing the board book phase, I suspect that we'll keep hanging on to this book for a while.

when i first heard this song sung by lois armstrong, many, many , many years ago....I KNEW IT WAS ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE SONGS...EVER!!!then when i saw this illustrated book on amazon, i went CRAZY!!!in this wonderful world, this is A MOST WONDERFUL BOOK....my 4 year old grand daughter & i LOVE this book...not only do we love the illustrations & the words to this song BUT we also listen & sing along with mr. louis armstrong. we each have a copy, & every call we either sing, read or describe the illustrations to each other.. we've also developed a greeting: whenever we talk on the phone or 1st see each other...i ask "what do you want?" & she answers "a wonderful world!". we then laugh & giggle hysterically together !!!!!!!can't give enough idolation for this book!!! there's only i thing i would like to see corrected, is that , i believed it's marketed as a :"children's bookBUT let me testify that people of all ages will LOVE this book !!!!!p.s. i also dare anyone to try to read through these pages without lapsing into their own "louie armstrong's interruption" of singing it!!!

We checked this out of the library for our little one, and loved it so much we had to buy it. We’ve also purchased copies for three other babies who have had birthdays recently. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful, and the words are simply the lyrics to the song. My daughter asks Alexa to play the song while she sings along to her baby brother. We all love this book.

One of the best boards books I have read in ages. The words are so moving (they are from the song sung by Louis Armstrong, which we all know)and the pictures/illustrations are wonderful.

Singularly the most read and popular book for both my niece —- and her parents who are big music lovers. Amazing to remember how great lyrics are to certain songs. This made for a perfect baby book - all the values they would want to instill from one famous song. Now they play Armstrong’s song and she tries to sing a long.

Central Africa is in many ways one of the still-blank parts on the map of the continent. Especially northern Congo-Brazzaville, south-east Cameroon and southwest CAR remain off the map of most people except loggers, anthropologists (a very few), and even government officials from those countries. Here is a book which realistically recounts what working and travelling in the area is like. The writing is good, and the reading is, to me, gripping. I have lived in both Cameroon and the Central African Republic, and from my occasional experiences in those forested areas, the book brings back realistic memories for me. I highly recommend this book with those people in love with Africa (I have been here for over 40 years) and interested in gaining more insight into the parts of Africa not totally modernized and homogenized.

Drums along the Congo is an interesting book for people who are interested in Crytozoology (the search for hidden animals).This book deals with the search for Mokele Mebembe, believed by locals and some explorers to be a living dinosaur similar to brontosaurus. Author and explorer Rory Nugent takes the reader on a detailed journey to west Africa and the Congo Basin (the 2nd largest rainforest on Earth). Nugent actually spotted near the end of his expedition what he believes to be the famous cryptid,a insert of photos is included. We are left to decide for ourselves if we believe in dinosaurs living in the modern day. The Congo is the only place on earth that could support a relic population of prehistoric animals since the temperature and flora are much as they were in the Mesozoic Era-the age of dinosaurs. What if??

Rory Nugent was so close to me in actual footage for so many years here in my home town of New Bedford. Only hearing stories of some cat who live in one of the city's old textile brick building mills. Stories of his adventure lost at sea and adrift for weeks before Coast Guard planes see this impossible little spot...stranded.Strange how I never new him until he's long gone on the other side of the planet when I read On The Docks...Pink Headed Duck....and this beauty.Well done classic scenario appealing to every human being. The great unknown and the quest in search of is a long way from our modern day touch of a button, but.......after all it's in our cellular makeup/DNA. It wasn't too long ago in human history when we were all "on the road" if you will...in order to survive...and educate ourselves.Rory's a throwback in a good and completely useful way.Buy the book man.....what are you thinking about?pistolpete

Entertaining read with enough background information included to explain the author's motives for his quest without needlessly bogging down the narrative. Overall a solid adventure book interesting enough to hold my attention and easy enough to be read in 2-3 days or even quicker.

Nugent writes well,has a fun sense of humor,but was very little actual monster searching done, as most of his time was spent tied up in beauracratic red tape. Still I enjoyed the sense of adventure, the culture he spied and shared with us. Over all not a bad read,but not what i had hoped for, in that i wanted more monster action, although it did demonstrate the difficulties an expedition faces or in Mr.Nugent's case, a single man has in achieving the goals of their dreams .
