I almost feel bad writing that. I almost rated it four stars but the truth is, it couldn't have been any other way. It isn't the best book. It is the adult that the best child has become. It is resolution. The journey and exploration of Greensky is complete. While I do certainly appreciate a book that has a final end. Especially since books that end have been found to limit earnings (and this has done more to destroy good writing than almost anything else) it is important to find one that ends and better to find one that ends well. Ending well has also been destroyed by the movie industry. We don't want things to end 'sensibly'. We almost become aggravated if there is a realistic compromise. This book ends exactly that way. And that is why I love it. So there.

This is one of my top three favorite Childrens' book series. Imaginative, thoughtful, with a creative and provocative approach to issues of non-violence.

I read these books many years ago, several times over, and thought they were wonderful. Zilpha Keatley Snyder is an under-appreciated author and one of my all-time favorites! These are the fourth set I have bought over the years; I read them to my grandchildren.

The Green Sky Trilogy, and the video game that served to continue the story, were formative for me as a boy. The world is breathtaking and the story is thought-provoking.

Sweet childhood memories of playing the computer game. I purchased the whole trilogy and love having it in my bookcase.

This is the third book in the Green Sky Trilogy and readers definitely need to read the first two books, Below the Root and And All Between, in order to understand this book. I read the first book in childhood and always remembered it, although I wasn't able to find the remaining two books until the advent of Amazon.com. Even as an adult, I enjoyed finishing the trilogy, despite the style feeling a bit dated. It's a slower read than people might be used to these days, especially with books like The Hunger Games trilogy being so popular, books that are action-packed and have break-neck pacing. There's a fascinating parallel, though, between the themes in The Hunger Games and the themes in the Green Sky trilogy; both trilogies are deeply anti-war and place huge emphasis on the value of life, both ally and enemy. The Green Sky trilogy goes farther into exploring the theme, I think, by envisioning a world without conflict and how such a world could operate. With The Hunger Games resonating with so many people, young and old, now, I think Zilpha Keatley Snyder's trilogy deserves a resurgence.

The list of characters at the beginning of this book should give you a hint that the book is hard to follow. The main characters from the first two books of this series, BELOW THE ROOT and AND ALL BETWEEN, are back, along with a cast of hundreds. The two girls from different cultures, Teera and Pomma, are the focus of the Rejoyning, the integrating of the Kindar and the Erdlings into one society. The girls soon find out that it is no fun to be revered as messiah figures; in fact it puts them in danger from the splinter groups on each side who want society to remain as it was before the Rejoyning.I really wanted to love this book, like everything else that Ms. Snyder has written, but making myself finish was a grueling chore. The plot is most likely too convoluted and politically significant for children to read. It is two hundred pages of all the minutiae of council meetings and political machinations to try and integrate two societies. Instead of being written from the children's perspective like the first two books, this one is mainly told by adults and details the boring grown-up concerns, like supply distribution. None of the charm or magic of the first two books. What a yawn! Only read this if you want a detailed account of integrating two superstitious, bigoted societies.

I read Ellefson's book with great anticipation. I am a lifelong Megadeth fan and, since the mouthpiece of that band has always been Dave Mustaine (and rightfully so, I suppose), I was eager to see what Ellefson had to say. Not just about Megadeth, but about his journey to sobriety. I share many similarities to his background - we are the same age, raised in rural, close-knit families with normal, hard-working, loving parents and with formal religious training...we both got in trouble with drugs and alcohol at a young age, but also cleaned up our acts at a young age (myself in '88 and he in '90). I enjoy these stories of how my Heavy Metal Heroes keep that sobriety too.I have to say when I first read the book, I was somewhat underwhelmed. He almost made getting sober seem "too easy" and it seemed like he was often "holding back" his true feelings about Mustaine, the band's career, and his exit from and reunion with the band. SO...I decided to re-read Dave Mustaine's biography that came out in 2010, to see what was "missing" before I made my judgement. (I assume if you're a Megadeth fan, you've read it - if not, go buy it now!)Well after re-reading Mustaine's book, for sure there are 2 very different opinions of many things that happened. The most glaring example is how Mustaine claims he PAID Ellefson to go to his drug rehab meetings "and before I knew it, he was clean and sober, I accidentally 12-stepped Junior". Well, Ellefson admits to nothing of the kind! Also, Mustaine describes in great detail Ellefson's lawsuit and the bad blood between them at the time....and Ellefson barely gives that a paragraph. I got the impression he is either so "over it" he doesn't want to talk about it anymore, or, possibly the settlement forbids him to talk about it. Well, you can compare and judge for yourself.The GOOD thing is, after reading the 2 books, I can see how Ellefson was able to embrace and stick with sobriety for good much easier that Mustaine did. It goes to show that if you have a solid background in life, both family and religion, it is something to help you know right from wrong, believe in yourself and be strong---Mustaine had none of those advantages; no wonder he relapsed so many times! To Ellefson's credit, his book offers no negativity toward Mustaine or anyone else for that matter. He shares a completely positive message, and takes full responsibility for his life.Here is a man that went from a naive kid from the midwest to a metal superstar--he deserves every success he has earned, and in doing so, it is clear to see that he is one of the greats, not just as a musician, but as a man. Mustaine should thank his lucky stars to have met him. Love him or hate him, I think Mustaine would have been a success no matter who was backing him up, but MEGADETH would not have been superstars without Ellefson all those years.In sum, Mustaine also made a comment that Ellefson is not someone you'd want in your foxhole, mostly because he is not a fighter (in the physical sense). I disagree. Ellefson is a fighter of a different kind, and one of the first people I'd want with me in a band, on a team, or as a friend. Read and enjoy!

I really enjoyed getting a personal look into the life of Dave Ellefson from Megadeth. He is a very grounded man. Some readers might be annoyed by the attention he gives to his faith, but personally, I really liked hearing about how his faith is the bedrock for his long term sobriety. I get the feeling that he is a very caring man and down to earth, as evidenced by the great many people who have said nice things about him over the years.

An excellent story. It chronicles Dave's journey from Midwest roots to the L.A. metal scene. His bizarre introduction to the other Dave in Megadeth. Then eventually the horrible dependency on heroine and alcohol. The tact put forth while being simultaneously candid is well done. Also covered is: the legal battle, the years between both Megadeth stints, and the really cool burying of the hatchet. Friendship and a shared faith end up still having a place in the World.

Any fan of Megadeth will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. While never a substance abuser myself, I have worked with many, and Dave describes his struggles so well you will feel like you are right there with him. He never shies away from telling you how difficult drug addiction is to beat or the rewards once he became clean and sober.. it is very honest and insightful as to both experiences. It is nice to see that Dave is as kind and open as he is talented. In short, it is very well written, insightful, revealing, and honest. One cannot ask for more than that.I also have to admit that I am a HUGE fan of Megadeth, especially of Dave Mustaine and Dave Ellefson, so this book was a true treat for me to read. I am so happy to see Megadeth back as strong as ever musically and stronger than ever personally.

I love this book. Dave's got a great story and I enjoyed reading it. Mr. Ellefson shops occasionally in a store where I work and I was able to have him autograph it for me which made it even better. I'm not even that big of a Megadeth fan but after hearing about his life and then reading the book, I'm so glad I picked it up. I'm a big fan of reading this type of book from the bands that I grew up with.So glad to hear about Dave becoming a Christian as well. I was a rock n roll kid who became a Christian too.

It's a fast read and an incredible inside look at the life of David Ellefson, his struggles with being the typical rock star in the 80's with substance abuse, and how he used faith to recover and rebuild his life. David is a class act and he keeps the stories, drama, and reasons for past member's departures to a minimum. If you want those stories, read Dave Mustaine's book as well, if you haven't already. I'm really looking forward to the second book!

Read it cover to cover in two days! Dave (Junior) is a nice guy in a nasty business, and his compassion and humanity shine through in this autobiography. If anyone watches his great youtube posts from the road, DE is the kind of guy you would love to hang out with and talk to about exactly what he is writing in this book - the incredible story of Megadeth and the difficulties of surviving in the music industry. It also gives us over-aged bass players a way to live the rock star dream vicariously. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story of success and family.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading about his ups and downs and how recovery very played a huge part and still does in his life. He sounds like a great man all around, not perfect, but willing to put it out there and show his struggles and overcoming.

I had always ignored Munro until the moment she won the Nobel Prize. I mean, how could a woman who wrote about such mundane things ever interest me. How wrong I was. Her writing soars, no gimmicks, just clear, deceptively simple prose with startling insight. These stories are devastatingly beautiful, especially Silence, which i devoured only to realize after that nothing really happened in the story. As much as I love great writing, I also love plot and crave action, I need the story to move. And Munro did move me, though not in the way I'd expected, in a way I almost disliked but still couldn't help being moved. Her characters are unpredictable and seem not to know what they're going to do until they actually do them, and though this might at times make them seem unbelievable, since they're far from what we've come to expect in modern fiction, these women are superbly crafted, not to mention sort of crazy. Even the young girl in the story Trespasses was disturbing and there was a nice twist at the end. I also liked Tricks even though the twist has been used many times before (a thing Munro herself alludes to). All in all, this was an excellent collection. I will be reading Munro for the rest of my life.

Alice Munro is a wonderful storyteller. She is an expert in short story writing, and I have read enough of them to compare. Runaway is no exception. After having read Dear Life, I thought I would try Runaway, after reading the sterling reviews on the book. I must say I was not disappointed. Personally, I like a writer who focuses on the depth of the character, on what makes them "tick", so to speak. Every story in this book had this type of character. Maybe it's just because I can identify with them, and say to myself, "yes, I know how they feel". All I know is that each one is so richly developed, likable or not. I highly recommend, and cannot wait to read another book by this author.

I’ve always loved Alice Munro’s stories. The first collection I read was Something I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You, back in college. Her writing style is simple but the writing is thought-provoking. I often can’t help but thinking about her story for many days after I read it. Very often I read a story many times but still don’t get it completely. I think that’s how a good piece of literature should feel, the meaning is there but it leaves plenty of room for interpretation.

This book was unlike any I have read, with possibly the exception of "Olive Kittridge." The stories were deeply detailed; I sometimes wondered why certain passages were included. But, for the most part, I found them interesting and thought provoking. Each story touched on a turning point in a character's life; some event or realization that altered her perception of her life and surroundings, both past and present. The book was somewhat of a testament to how our views and opinions change as we grow older and learn to accept and appreciate our mortality. A strange and memorable read, my first of Alice Monro; I believe I will read more.

I am not usually a fan of short stories but this book may have converted me. Alice Munro's collection hits you where it hurts. She is not a "happy" writer, but a soulful one. At times, you feel as though she has peeked in your closet or underwear drawer and found out about your heartaches or secrets. For the "loner" who doesn't really want to feel "oh-so-alone", this collection may make you feel, somehow, inexplicably connected to the world. I read and re-read pages because I didn't want to let go of the feelings she stirred with a few well-chosen words. If you don't connect with someone in one of her stories, you either haven't lived, are exceptionally lucky, or haven't thought about the complexity of the human spirit, the randomness of life events, or the dimensions of a well-experienced life.

I listened to the fine audio version of this and recommend it highly. Munro has the ability to take plots which if described mechanically, as one reviewer did, can sound formulaic (one could say the same of Shakespeare) but never read that way. Sometimes we want to know more, as her characters do, but Munro recognizes the falsity in that. A less talented writer would have made Juliet's story into a tragic melodrama but instead she gives us a haunting portrayal of the consequences of Juliet's character and her choices. Great fiction doesn't always give us what we think we want, but instead helps us understand more fully the challenges of living. She is as deserving of a Nobel prize as any living writer in english. The first story, the title story, was in some ways the weakest. It is pretty good, but if you are a little uncertain after reading it, keep going.One of the reviewers seems to think that Munro is southern, which, of course, she is not.

Brilliant writer has done it again. I missed this collection, but with the film Julieta coming out, I wanted to read the source material (3 of the stories).

This book, based on journals left behind by a German soldier in the 299th Infantry Division, is a well written and well annotated history of the experiences of a single Wehrmacht soldier on the Eastern Front. Hans Roth served in the Wehrmacht's 299th Infantry Division anti-tank battalion from the first day of Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's June 1941 massive invasion of the Soviet Union, until his disappearance, with most of Army Group Center, in June 1944. Roth proves to be an intelligence, observant, and talented writer, capturing for his journals all the essential elements of war on the Eastern Front. In three months his 14,000 division, experiencing constant Red Army artillery and air attacks, is attributed and reduced to some 6,000 men. Replenished with reinforcements, Roth finds himself and his unit being used a fire brigade all along the Eastern Front. It is clear that he imbibed Hitler's anti-Semitism and believed in Nazi Germany's wars against Soviet Russia, based on his comments about Jews and Bolsheviks. In the end, Roth's 299th Infantry Division, like the rest of the Wehrmacht, were overwhelmed by Red Army infantry divisions, tank brigades, and air force squadrons that never stopped attacking the German soldiers.This book is so perfect a memoir that it caused me to wonder whether its was all really true - or fiction. This proved to be the case with another powerful memoir of the Eastern Front "The Forgotten Soldier", which was later revealed to be fictitious. However, the accompany photographs and documents at the end lend great credibility to one of the best German Eastern Front memoirs I have ever read."Eastern Inferno" is highly recommended for anyone interested in infantry warfare on the Eastern Front, the German Wehrmacht, and the Red Army.

This journal gives a graphic description of the savage warfare between the Soviets and the Germans. It certainly rings true as I compare it to other books on this subject. This is the only book period, where this soldiers account of rounding up the Jews in the Ukraine by the SS squads and where just machined gunned down, men, women, and children. This soldier describes it in a matter of fact way although it seemed to be disagreeable to him(not enough to protest though). I am willing to bet that if he lived that after the war this would have been edited out. The book does leave the things up in the air as he apparently was killed sometime in 1944. For readers on this area of conflict the journal describes the battles and daily life on the front very well.Thanks Doc Rich

Sometimes history is presented in such a general manner that end results often overshadow the reality of events that lead to those results; this often leads to misperceptions, dare I say "myths", regarding what really happened. World War II is rife with such generalizations, especially the conflict between Germany and the Soviet Union, where four bitter years of brutality are often summarized in only a few sentences. But, occasionally, a lone voice emerges that can provide an honest and refreshing view of events and even contradict popular belief by providing a first-hand, moment-by-moment account of events as they happened ... EASTERN INFERNO is such an example.As the men and women who survived World War II rapidly vanish from the world's population, new information, stories and details of the war continues to flow at an exponential rate. Christine Alexander and Mason Kunze have published three (of possibly four) volumes of their grandfather Hans Roth's wartime journal. Roth, a German soldier (specifically an anti-tank soldier) who participated in the war on the Eastern Front from the initial German invasion of the Soviet Union through the retreat from Stalingrad, provides a unique perspective of those early days of the conflict. Unflinching and brutal at times, the journal sheds new light on the initial months of the "war in the East" by contradicting the ease of the German advance into the Soviet Union. Roth also conveys the deplorable conditions in which the war was fought, the atrocities committed by both sides of the conflict, the unfathomable destruction of life and material, the filth and the miserable weather. What the journals reveal are the inner thoughts of an ordinary German, not an ardent Nazi, who dutifully serves his country, but longs to be home with his wife and daughter.EASTERN INFERNO is divided into three chapters and each chapter represents one volume of Hans Roth's journal. The journal entries are recorded daily with some days being more eventful, descriptive and involved while others are only a sentence or two of personal thoughts about his family. Roth's knack for detail sets an early tone for the book, allowing the reader to witness the life of the typical German soldier in those "heady" early days when the German blitzkrieg seemed unstoppable. It only took a few pages before I realized Roth had taken me alongside him on that hot and humid day in June 1941 with his descriptive journal entries ... and this is exactly the experience I want when reading about first-hand accounts. I could easily imagine the dust clouds created by moving vehicles sticking to the sweaty faces and hands of exhausted infantrymen moving to the front lines under the oppressive sun ... uncomfortable and miserable. Something else the reader will notice early-on is that this soldier's account of participating in the invasion of the Soviet Union does not necessarily jive with the broad, generic summary of events that commonly defines Operation Barbarossa. While the huge swaths of land consumed by the German military and the enormous tally of prisoners taken in the initial weeks/months are well-documented, Roth's experience at the front indicates the Soviet military put up a much more spirited fight than history typically generalizes. With continuing accounts of his comrades being killed or wounded, Roth even reveals a degree of respect toward the Soviet enemy for his tenacity ... as well as his skill. But beneath this begrudging respect reveals the underlying element of Nazi racial indoctrination in that he is shocked that the Russian "swine" could manage to fight as effectively as they could. An early account of witnessing an execution at the hands of the SS is recounted with relative indifference.The journey that Roth takes the reader on is a brutal one filled with fear, death and misery and he meticulously details his observations in a manner that heightens the readers senses into what he actually experienced. The exuberant and optimistic tone present in the first third of the book dissipates as the war drags on and the tides shifts against Germany. Harassed by partisans that melt in and out of the forests and daily strafing attacks by Soviet planes (Ratas), the journal entries reflect a souring of optimism. As a brutal winter sets in, Roth's writings reveal that he and his comrades are a shell of their former selves ... the prior year's youthful enthusiasm is gone ... instead, the men are filthy, infested with lice and suffering from dysentery. Roth effectively describes this sense of despair he shares with his fellow soldiers as they squat in dingy panje huts to escape the deadly cold where the men turn to searching for and destroying lice as a game. Adding to the strain is that the enemy never stops attacking ... regardless of their losses. Roth even witnesses the Soviets murdering their own soldiers after retreating from a failed attack. A recurring theme in many of the journal entries is the gore and mass devastation he sees on a daily basis: his journey into Russia is a path filled with body parts, blood and decaying flesh of man and horses ... many, many horses.Interspersed throughout his journal entries, Roth personally addresses his wife and daughter in what appears to be little moments of solace amid a world of death and destruction. There is no heroic action accounted for, no chest-thumping and no resounding political rhetoric that comes forth in his writing ... just a simple journal of what is seen and felt.EASTERN INFERNO provides an amazing perspective of the average German infantryman's personal experience in Russia from the very beginning of the conflict ... as it happened. Roth's journal entries are vividly clear, informative and captivating. The author, Hans Roth, writes his journal in simple but effective, style. Despite being faced by superior numbers they believed in themselves being able to fight and win in most situations. Never mind facing death from enemy actions, the conditions in which they lived, for example waterlogged trenches, poor clothing, sometimes poor, or even no, food, the lack of adequate rest, and transport difficulties, show just how tough and long-suffering these soldiers were. The author describes his love for his family in his journal, which comes to an end in 1944, when he went missing. An interesting point is that the author hardly ever mentions Hitler or National Socialism, but he indicates that he fights for his country.

I have the Robin Buss translation of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO in paperback, but that copy was old and worn. I wanted a more durable hardcover edition to read and to display on my bookshelf in my new house. The hardcover I bought from Total Books arrived in near-perfect condition, exactly as advertised, and looks gorgeous on the shelf.Why Robin Buss' translation for Penguin Classics? That's a reasonable question since Alexandre Dumas has been dead long enough for his works to enter the public domain. Several translations of his major novels are not only available in cheaper editions (such as Barnes & Noble Classics), but for free on Project Gutenberg.These are inferior and, in the case of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, censored translations. Most of them date back to the Victorian period, and render Dumas' evergreen French into English prose that feels old-fashioned and stilted today. Furthermore, because these are translations from the Victorian period, the translators filtered Dumas through their own moral sensibilities to give us Bowdlerized versions of a novel that ran on sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll a century before rock 'n roll was something you could do without a machine gun.Robin Buss' unabridged translation comes directly from the original French and renders Dumas into fresh, readable modern English. Material previously omitted by Victorian-era translators such as Franz' hashish-fueled sexual fantasies and the strongly implied lesbian relationship between Eugenie and Louise remain intact and uncensored. As another reviewer pointed out, Buss will provide footnotes to explain subtleties that aren't easily translated from French to English, such as insults delivered by using the formal you (vous) rather than the informal/friendly/intimate you (tu).A detailed appendix provides valuable historical and cultural context that aids the reader in understanding Dumas' masterpiece, and includes a primer on the rise, fall, return, and final downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte that is crucial to making sense of the politics driving the novel's plot.If you cannot read Dumas in his native French, and you want a definitive English version, Robin Buss's unabridged and uncensored modern English translation is essential reading. No other translation will suffice.

This is my favorite novel, a story not only of persecution and vengeance, but of man's relation to his God and how it drives, inspires and interferes with his judgements. Often adapted to film, nobody has captured the depth of Dumas' perceptions and understanding of people, largely because filmmakers focus on the excellently-told action rather the true essence of the story. This is one man's battle against himself, beautifully articulated egardless of which translation from French you choose to read. If you've not read Dumas before, be aware that he sets up his characters and circumstances, creating mysteries, then departs from his main story line to pursue secondary characters. All the threads pull together by the end of the story, but through at least a third of the book, Edmund Dantes is only peripherally present. Don't be discouraged - it's worth the wait, as the resolution is one of the most moving I've encountered in literature. A brilliant book by one of history's most original writers and creators of great heroes.

I love this book. It is a masterpiece of writing and I wanted a copy I could read any time I wanted. However, the Kindle edition has so many errors that it is unreadable. Every page has words running together, and it makes for a huge headache to get through even 2 pages. I couldn't read it due to these issues. I'm very glad I only spent $1.99 on it, but I wish I had spent nothing. A very poorly edited kindle edition.

Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel The Count of Monte Cristo has seen life not only in print but in film and television, but one cannot appreciate the novel unless you read it in its entire unabridged length.Edmond Dantes is wrongfully accused of a crime and thrown in prison without trial to be forgotten, after overcoming both mental and physical anguish and befriending a fellow prisoner, and finally he is able to escape. Thanks to his friendship Dantes knows where a potential hidden treasure is located and finds it to be real, and using it begins finding out why he was thrown into prison and chart is path to revenge through fortune and hidden identities. Yet what this quick synopsis omits is the numerous and fascinating major and secondary characters that Dantes interacts throughout the narrative.Originally published in serial form, Dumas was paid for how much he wrote and one would think that The Count of Monte Cristo might be riddled with meandering subplots that never go anywhere and/or have nothing to do with the central plot. But Dumas instead wove a tapestry of beauty with every word he wrote; instead of making meandering plots he described scenes and events in rich detail that it brings the story even more alive in the reader’s imagination.If pressed to find anything negative to say about this book, the easiest answer would be cultural references that are almost 170 years old. The only other negative was the completely different societal norms that were in Parisian society in the 1840s compared today’s. However both of these ‘negatives’ can easily be put down to a piece of fiction that was contemporary when it was written but now can be seen as historical fiction with the passage to time.The Count of Monte Cristo needs to be read in all its unabridged glory to fully appreciate why it is a masterpiece and classic. Dumas’ literary tapestry is a delight to behold once finished with the last page and makes the reader think about when they’ll have time to reread it in the future.

As mentioned in another review, this book should be supplemental with another "getting started" guide if you are new to Golang. If you are simply considering Golang and understand the concepts of web applications then this will be a quick read. This book is very well written and well organized. It is a tutorial, not a reference. However, it is a good tutorial. If you dislike searching the web and trying to find small tutorials on one topic at a time (which are rarely well written), then this is the book for you. It will get you started on many important concepts, and the "why" is explained along the way.

Excellent text. Densely filled with easy to understand and apply golang web tools. The chapters are clearly divided after the second chapter into easy to digest topics which can easily stand on their own if you need a brush up on things such as database interfacing or a primer on accepting form data.Very very well done and i will eagerly scoop up future texts from Sau on golang.

I love Go (gloang) and this is an extremely helpful book that should be part of every Go programmer's bookshelf.Well written and great examples.

a very good book for those who want to take it from the beginning to the end

Sau Sheong Chang's book is nicely written and rich with code examples. He meets his goals of showing how to do web programming using only the Go language and "nothing more than standard libraries." However, you definitely should have some Go programming experience, some familiarity with Go syntax, and some experience with web development before diving into this text. Things are NOT spelled out with numbered how-to steps. If you are just getting started with Go, try "Go in Action" or another introductory Go programming book before tackling this work. The same applies if you have little or no web development experience. Get some first. Unlike some Manning books, you start coding in Chapter 1 in "Go Web Programming," and you are thrown into the deep end of the swimming pool in Chapter 2. The author wisely cautions: "If you find this chapter a bit too intimidating--especially with the rush of Go code--don't be too alarmed. Work through the next few chapters and then revisit this one and you'll find that things become a lot clearer!" In Chapter 2, you build a simple Internet forum app called ChitChat, and data is stored in a PostgreSQL relational database. The remaining eight chapters dig deeper into the web development process using Go, including testing and deploying to standalone servers, to services such as Heroku and Google App Engine, and to Docker containers. A lot of work clearly has gone into preparing this book. But again, be sure you have some Go experience and some web development experience before tackling "Go Web Programming." (My thanks to Manning for making a review copy available.)

The title matches the content exactly. The content begins by asking and answering the question, "What is web development?" After that solid introduction, the book then answers the question again in the Go language so that by the end, the reader can answer the questions, "What is web development?" and "How does one develop a web application in Go (without 3rd party libraries)?"The book is very well written and accessible for readers like myself who are new to the subject. I don't have a programming background and had to first learn the basics of Go, but that was enough for me to grasp the many code examples. Whether you are new to Go or web development or both, this book is a bargain for the value.The book is thorough and consumed so much of my attention that my wife is reconsidering our marriage vows.

Very well written book and examples are also very relevant. Being a tech editor I could see that this book is well reviewed and there aren't any bugs in the code.
