First off this book is short. It is not meant to be a through analysis of the regional history, person or movement. It is, as the author says: A critical ESSAY. As such, it performs well. The author does a decent job of providing Abdul Wahab's educational/political background. The book also provides a history of the Western influence, the ties to Saudi family, their perpetrations and quite obviously the author's personal views on all the aforementioned.The book, in my opinion, falls on the right side of judging the entire movement, without burdening the reader with tedious excerpts, citations, or lengthy analysis; it merely picks out the accepted facts of history and presents them for the reader. If you are looking for the smoking gun you will NOT find it here. This book should be the first of many books for you to read to get a complete and comprehensive view on why and how the Saudi family's history is intertwined with Western politics, and why control of Islam's epicenter - Mecca, is vital to that effort, all under the banner of reform and while using religious edicts from a so called reformist.The book is recommended for the narrow band of people who know SOME Islam, SOME regional political history and are interested in answering: Why the political control and definition of Islam is vital to regional security. This book will BEGIN to answer that question. It is an entry level book and serves well to that purpose.

Hamid Algar, in his essay book "Wahhabism", summarizes the birth, spread, and influence of the right wing Islamic Wahhabist sect in Saudi Arabia and world wide.Although he does not discuss the ideological details of the Wahhabist sect, he does provide a good end-to-end overview highlighting its principles and its contributions to the creation of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the impact of its alliance with the Saudi royal family, and its attempts of spreading its right wing ideology within Europe, USA, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.The book starts off with some difficulty since the author is anti-Wahhabism and therefore, on few occasions, he jumps back and forth between documenting the historical events and refuting the Wahhabist ideology without giving sufficient details to support his arguments. Few pages into the book, its tone changes and the focus becomes a summary of historical events, wrapped at the end with a list of organizations that have Wahhabist influence and Saudi funding. He does touch briefly on the relationship between Wahhabism, 9/11, and the Taliban. He also hints on the current strain on the Saudi-Wahhabist alliance post 9/11.Although there were times when it was difficult to follow the author's train of thought, the over all book provides a good starting point for anyone who is interested in Saudi history and its modern methodology for spreading Wahhabism throughout the world. The book can be used as a launch pad for identifying further, and more detailed, readings.

Prof. Algar should be congratulated for writing this timely book. For readers who do not know about this ideology, it is sufficient to tell them that Talibans are "Wahhabis". If you want to know what Taliban believed and why they did not represent the real Islam - YOU MUST READ THIS GEM. Two quick points - It is a misconception specially in the minds of western scholars that Wahhabism started as a reform movement. Wahhabism was/is just a plot to befool ordinary devout muslims to capture power and that is how Saudi Arabia (the most extremist "muslim" country) is under the control of these power hungry dictators. Secondly, Wahhabis are mostly characterized as "extreme" or as "conservative" Sunnis with adjectives such as "stern" or "austere" (though saudis are not austere by any standard!) added for good reason. It has, however, been observed by knowledgeable Sunnis since the earliest times that Wahhabis do not count as part of "Sunnis" for almost all the practices, traditions and beliefs denounced by the Wahhabis have been historically integral to Sunni Islam, enshrined in a vast body body of literature and accepted by the great majority of muslims. It arrived today and I read it completely. For a complete lay person it does outline some keys to the program but don't expect to walk away knowing what actions to take. You'll need some to order tests and interpret results for you. I don't know that this One Hour Read gives enough info to begin your individual protocol as soon as testing is complete. The full book MAY give more complete instruction...I don't know.This book is poorly written and edited. They need to pay a legit proofreader and also editor to clean it up. Some paragraphs/statements are very confusing, and there are no page numbers in the entire book. Unless you're already knowledgeable on the subject or health in general, I don't recommend this book. Don't misunderstand, I'm VERY glad this work is being done and that help is being offered but the book itself ain't so hot.

This book (actually a pamphlet) was listed on the same site as a full-length book with the same title. The covers of the book and the pamphlet on Amazon's web site are identical. However, the actual cover of the pamphlet has a large heading--"SUMMARY"--under which it describes itself as a "OneHourRead". The $7 pamphlet allegedly distills that book in approximately 10 pp. of text. It is poorly written or edited (e.g., the preface refers to the author--Dale Bredesen--twice as "Dale" and the third time as "Dave", and the fact that it can't get the author's name right bodes poorly for what follows. In addition to the sloppy writing/editing, this pamphlet, subtitled "The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline", offers NO concrete information on how one might prevent and reverse cognitive decline. Coincidentally I just ran across a long (clearly written) article about scientific progress in Alzheimer's research that evaluates various treatments/diets in the November or December 2017 AARP magazine. O a scale of 1-10, I'd give the AARP essay a 9.5 and Bredesen a 1..

I ordered the summary thinking the recommended diet and/or recipes would be included and it's not. It's probably best to have the book if it's something you maybe following through with. I wanted to just learn more about it after seeing it on Dr Oz.

The message in this book is very important, so the 1 star rating has nothing to do with content. The issue is the format and delivery of the information in this summary: it is so poorly written, you should save your money and just buy the book. With the book, you can skim the sections based on the Table of Contents - where you can actually find page numbers (none in the pamphlet). There are so many instances of odd sentence structure, grammatical errors, incorrect punctuation, and use of inappropriate words that reading it was painful. It's almost like a bad translation from a foreign language! Unbelievable that they didn't hire an editor to read it with a red pen before publishing. I got about half way through and just could not continue - I ordered the book, which is what you should do from the get-go.

There seems to be a lot that makes sense here, I started a journey of a healthier diet and immediately say improvements in my thinking and feeling, and this is before discovering this all encompassing plan.

After experiencing what several loved ones went through, I am very concerned about Alzheimers disease . I do plan on getting tested to see if I also am a carrier of the ApoE gene. Thank you Dr Bredesen for all the research and writing you shared with us. I'm sure you have given hope to many, many families who were told try this pill, maybe it will work. Angel Blessing to you.

This synopsis is right in line with all of the research I have done over the last five years. My family has been plagued by this disease five of my father's siblings of a total of 9 have had late life development of cognitive decline 78 to 85 years old. I recommend this reading to anyone concerned with this devastating disease.

This book gives hope to millions to avoid a dreadful disease so that we all can live an enjoyable, full and healthy life

After finishing Leigh Bardugo’s epic series, The Grisha Trilogy, I was sad to see it come to an end because it was so engaging and beautifully written and I knew I would miss the Darkling. Now Bardugo has come out with another series set in the same world, same time as the Grisha but with a whole new set of characters. And you know what? I hate to say this, it might even be considered blasphemy, but I found myself more engaged, more fascinated, more intrigued, and utterly in love with these new characters. And the story? It has more twists and set backs and game changing moments than any book I have ever read. It’s intoxicating and fast-paced and you need to pay attention or you’ll miss Bardugo’s multiple sleight of hand tricks. Nothing is what it seems.The Grisha Trilogy had the Darkling; mysterious power-hungry megalomaniac that he was, all readers agreed the man was sexy. In this series, we get Kaz; greedy, dangerous, deceptive Bastard of the Barrel that he is, despite all his faults and one very weird but ultimately understandable phobia, the man is criminally sexy. Emphasis on criminal, by the way. He’s the guy you make eye contact with in a dive bar who makes you shiver, but you know that taking him home would be one huge, but memorable, mistake.Anyway, the story is all about the art of the con and is told from multiple viewpoints, which Bardugo expertly masters. Five con artists, led by Kaz, stand to make enough money to buy them out of whatever debt or indenture or brothel or sorry mess they call life if they pull off a most impossible heist. Keeping all the details of the plan close to his ever-present vest, Kaz hires a spy he calls The Wraith, a sharpshooter with a gambling problem, a Grisha Heartrender, a soldier who wants to kill the Grisha, and a rich kid with a penchant for explosives. Combining their various talents, they intend to break into the world’s most impenetrable prison and kidnap the scientist responsible for the dangerous drug that I’ll just refer to as “Grisha meth”.If all the main characters in Six of Crows weren’t teenagers, this would definitely read as adult fiction. I never regarded any of them on the same level as the pimply-faced immature high schoolers that run around in my house. All the characters have a hard luck story or monumental event that made them grow up fast. Throughout the book we learn their personal stories, some are incredibly sad and unfair. But, in the end, it’s what made them who they are: interesting, resilient, criminal and ultimately dangerous. Heartbreakers that they are, I fell in love with all of them.A masterful storyteller and creative writer with a clever sense of humor, Bardugo is one of my favorite authors. As much as I adored The Grisha Trilogy, I absolutely love the dirty and gritty beauty of Six of Crows. And, I need to have the next book soon.

Why is it so hard to find good Adult Fantasy these days? I bought this book based on the amazing reviews, but I have to disagree with the other reviewers. I really thought that this book lacked so much. Instead of putting in the hard work of character development, the author just had all of the peripheral characters Tell you how to perceive one another. I can't tell you how many times I read "Kaz is so cold-hearted and ruthless, Kaz is so underhanded, Kaz is cruel and conniving."I felt like I was being brainwashed from hearing it over and over again Instead of actually gleaning any character traits from Kaz's behavior or dialogue. It's lazy writing to tell characterization instead of show it through skilled story writing.I think the author did a poor job of developing believable chemistry between the characters, and ultimately I did not care about the cast or the outcome of their journey. It's a two part series, with the Six of Crows fizzling out in what was Meant to be a cliff-hanger ending that left you longing for Book 2- but instead just left me feeling relieved that I could close this book and move on to a different, more skillful author.

This book was described as Game of Thrones meets Ocean's Eleven in the blurb. It's kind of accurate in that the book is essentially a heist story in a fantasy setting. However it was definitely much more simplistic than the Game of Thrones series and also a YA novel. It definitely had it's fair share of violence though.Overall I enjoyed this book - I liked the world-building that Leigh Bardugo did and the magic had clear rules and limitations, which is a plus. The characters were all pretty memorable and distinct, especially the main character Kaz. There wasn't a super clear villain, but more like a system that the characters were fighting against. I thought the dialogue was good and the pacing/plot was pretty steady, although I never really got fully invested in the overall story.The narrative switched between different characters every chapter, and also alternated between current story events and flashbacks. Despite all the jumping around, the story was easy to follow and none of the character stories were boring.I did think it was weird that all of the main characters were 15-17 years old. I knew this was YA going in, but the characters' ages didn't really fit with their mannerisms and backstories. They hardly ever acted or spoke like teenagers, and a lot of them had backstories that involved prison sentences, gambling addiction, slavery, training as a soldier, tragic romances, etc. It just seemed like it would make more sense for the characters to be a little bit older, and I'm not sure what having them be so young added to the story besides making the book more appealing to teenagers?The other thing I really didn't like was that the book ended extremely abruptly. I knew this was part of a series, but it felt like there was absolutely no conclusion to the story. I turned the page after the end of a chapter and that was it! There are plenty of multi-book series that still manage to have a satisfying conclusion within each individual book.

I lost my original set of the 16 books of this series when I moved to another state. I was heart-broken to say the least. Thanks to the sellers on Amazon I have replaced every book atvery reasonable prices.Thank you Tim LaHaye & Jerry Jenkins for bringing this series to us. I have read several ofyour books in this series at least three times. With each reading one sees more and more andunderstands so much more of what the Gospels are teaching us. I also have their book"Are We Living In End Times"......this book may have been published in 2000... but for the 27 %of the Gospels that we don't spend time to study about...it's astonishing how much of this bookreflects the world today in 2013. A MUST READ ALSO to have in conjunction with the Left Behind Series.

This book from the Left Behind series was a bit draggy compared to the first four. It was still good, but I found Ray a bit out of character, his rage just didn't seem to fit my image of him. Other than thosse two things, the story line was very good and by the end of the book left you wanting more. I'm also getting a bit frustrated with the character Chaim, feel that his obstinance is getting dragged out a bit too long and just doesn't strike me as realistic. However, I loved the visualization of the horses and riders and the destruction they wreak. All in all, a good read, and looking forward to the next in the series.

Having just finished the 6th book in the "Left Behind" series, I thought overall this installment was pretty decent. LaHaye & Jenkins create motives for enough characters to keep you guessing right up to the last page who will be the Antichrist's killer, and even then they leave it with an almost soap opera like cliff hanger.My only beef with this book is something that's just problematic in a serialized novel format:I don't honestly believe the main characters are in danger of dying before the last book. That means a bunch of peripheral characters are brought in for a scene or two, and then die, or are killed. Characters it's hard to have much attachment to.However, I enjoyed this "chapter" in the series much more than the last, and if you're a fan of the book you won't be disappointed.

Assassins starts off slow just like the all the other Left Behind books. I find that the first 200 pages is just filler. The interesting part of the first half, is the rising of the horde of 200 million demonic horsemen. They slay a third of the population which leaves only half of the world's original population. The Tribulation Force tries hard to keep themselves unrevealed to the Global Community as they also have to deal with each other. As Nicolae prepares for a "global party," Rayford is feeling tremendous rage against all the appose the word of God. I went straight through the last 100 pages in a few hours. As Nicloae's party in Jerusalem starts, the book really begins, and it is hard to put down.

This book is certainly as good as the first book Left Behind. You simply can not turn the pages quickly enough during the last 50 pages. Of great concern was that the book was going to end too soon thus leaving the reader feeling taken advantage of - "cliffhanger to make you buy even more books."Fortunately there was enough content in this book to make it enjoyable even though it did turn into a cliffhanger which requires the reader to purchase the next book. It is unfortunate that we must wait another 6, or more, months to read the next in this series.I realize the need to do this since it increases profits - but for those who love this series, myself included, it is a painful wait.I enjoyed seeing more scripture from Revelation in this book and thought the author's views on the middle chapters were insightful.To any that might have been disappointed in book 4, which I was, this will wet your appetite for the series again, as did the 5th book.

The Left Behind series is one of the best I've read in a long time. I am now on book 10, and there aren't too many series that will hold my attention like this. Although in some places the author could have shortened up the scenes, it's still very exciting and hard to put the books down.I read on the Kindle, and the author has nice sub-breaks within the chapters making it easy to say, "I'll read one more section." Before you know it, you are several chapters later.Fun read!

I've read and recommended this series to a number of friends since the first book came out. However, Apollyon and Assassins do not begin to equate in quality with the initial books. I have read other reviews saying the "cash cow" has come into play here and I regret that I must agree. With the upcoming movie of "Left Behind", I felt that the authors were writing Assassins more as a screenplay than a novel. Please Mr. Jenkins and Mr. LaHaye, return to your prior quality writing. The movie rights will take care of themselves as will the screenplay! Leave the "who-dun-it" theatrics out because it just cheapens an otherwise invaluable series of books.

Wonderful continuation in the left behind series. A must read. Start from the Left Behind, No. 1 and make sure to read all the books in the series. They are very enlightening, each time you read them, you will find something that you might have missed in the last reading. I have highlighted all the quotes from the Bible and checked them with my own Bible. Very good
