My eight year loves these books and has gotten them for the last few years for any gift giving occasion. She likes to read them out loud because as a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grader she's grown with them from struggling to read them to finally being able to whip through them on a road trip. She likes that while they have big words they are sentence long facts so she still feels a sense of accomplishment in reading them to us. I also love when the facts that she learns in these books show up in conversations at a later date. Great job Nat Geo. Also highly recommend Thur National Geographic kids magazine. They're very similar and support each other well. We have quite the collection of these books and anticipate our daughter will enjoy them all the way through elementary school. Heck us adults learn from them as well when she reads them to us.

I put this in my cart last minute as a stocking filler and I can't put it down! My son and I sat and read it for about an hour last night and we still aren't done. It is so interesting that I am considering ordering them all! He loved it and I could probably read it over and over and still be wowed with the interesting facts!

My 8 yr old who "doesn't like to read" will sit for over 30 minutes and read this straight through! He loves to read it out loud to me, and my brain kind of gets overloaded with all the cool facts after a while, but I love that he is loving reading. It has fun photos and illustrations and the facts are all so interesting--some kind of mind-blowing! Some of the words are hard for him to read, but many of the words are at his reading level. I love all of the books in this series by National Geographic.

This is a colorful book, although it's a little misleading. I would have assumed all the facts to be nature-related, but they're not. They're kind of random. The main reason that this disappoints me is that it was something I ordered to give to a little guy who loves animals. I hope he's not disappointed too!

I bought this for my 7 year old granddaughter for Christmas. With all of the presents that she received, she really enjoyed reading this book . . and I enjoyed her reading it to me. It is filled with interesting facts. I am now going to get the rest of the series for her as well.

My seven-year-old loves all these books. However, I like the Myths Busted books better than the Weird but True books because they actually give an explanation of each myth and why it's "busted"! Weird but True books just make a statement without any backup information.

Great book for my 10 year grand daughter. She read it quickly but she loved it. I plan on buying more of these as gifts for her.

David Halberstam (1934-2007) was the author of twenty-two books, including fifteen bestsellers. Born in New York City, Halberstam spent much of the 1960s as a reporter for The New York Times, covering the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement. I love reading David Halberstram - unfortunately this is not one of his better efforts. The first half of the book discussing the subjects earlier in the subjects life was excellent and fact filled. Once we get to the coaches move to Cleveland and his first head coaching experience the text gets more general. I am not returning the book or giving it away, but I will be looking for another text from a different author for more insight.

This is the same author that wrote the "Best and the Brightest", a book that I read decades ago, that is even more compelling today in view of our country being stuck in Iraq, which is not all that different than Viet Nam. That book was the story of the men that John F. Kennedy chose to accompany him on that magnificent journey of a 1000 days, a journey that ended in the sad destruction of Lyndon Johnson's administration. Whatever subject Halberstam chooses to write about becomes compelling after reading just a few lines of the book.Here he tackles the subject of Bill Belichick, head coach of the New England Patriots, and how this man has created a sports dynasty in an age where all the rules were designed to discourage such a creation.The author's words flow like poetry. Even if you are uninterested in the subject of the book, it is still compelling. There are a number of reasons to read a book like this, which may be far removed from your own area of expertise, and even normal interest.Great learning sometimes involves people going outside their expertise. In doing so, it can make for great discoveries, and finding a fascinating idea or concept that a person would never think of for themselves in their daily work. I really enjoyed this book! I'm a sucker for a sweet love story and this book is it!!! I love the loving but argumentative relationship between Liam and Fox. While their relationship is new they bicker like an old couple who's been married and in love for forty! I highly recommend this book!!

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit.My old 3* is now a 3,5* and clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*):5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like 'Jesse's Smile' and Joey' from Angelique Jurd, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Liberty' from Seth King),it's like an A+4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the classAt first, I was confused. I had already 3 books in the series and now there was a new one, and THAT should be book one? But after asking the author, it was clear. The first book was written by another author (that's why that book isn't either in KU) and that author didn't continue with Beau, so he provided now the book one in the series.And as the other books, it's a pleasure to read it.

Fox is definitely a mouthy and insecure omega. An OBGYN nurse who has a run in with Dr.Prost and the battle begins to see if they are going to make it as a couple or fall to the way side. Both men don't want a relationship, but enjoy the sex. But when they do think they want a little more they are both afraid to invest their hearts. Its a story that just when things look good, they don't and the reader is kept on their toes as they watch these two MCs fight their way into each others hearts. Fox is the most insecure and this reader wondered if his mouthiness is going to make him loose what he wants most...an alpha and a father for their baby. Excellent story that is well worth reading for you Mpreg fans out their. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

Despite the initial strife between Fox and Liam I really liked and rooted for their relationship. Fox is blunt, he definitely tells it how he sees it and he doesn't care. He constantly challenges Liam. He doesn't believe that he is less important, intelligent or worthy of respect just because he's an omega. Sometimes he's so busy stating his opinion that he doesn't listen or assumes what Liam thinks. Liam is a bit too sure of himself at times. I liked that he started to soften as he spent time with Fox. When he put Fox first, even in the midst of an argument, he won me over completely. The man put his priorities in order. There is a lot of push and pull in the story but it all left me with a smile at the end.

I agree with Majorie Williams, I also own books 2 & 3 of the series. Fox is distressed with the way omegas are supposed to kowtow to alphas. He retaliates by being mouthy and butt is where he doesn't belong. Liam is am alpha that spouts about equality for omegas, but still expects them to follow. When offered his dream job in L.A. he expects Fox to follow meekly. Fox refuses to leave Sweetwater and refuses to compromise.I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

From their first meeting they butted heads but fate had something else in store for them. They couldn’t deny the pull and attraction they had and kept on coming back to each other. When life throws them a curve ball they decide to fight for what they want. The road to their HEA is it not easy but compromise and communication is key. This was a good read and a nice start to a new series. I voluntarily received an arc of this book.

I’m still confused how this book came about considering that it’s new and I read books two and three already but regardless it was a great read. I love sassy Omegas! Now I’m going back to read the other two books!

Friedman offers a compelling, well-researched paradigm for understanding how the US arrived at its current level of dysfunctional politics. His hypothesis, restated throughout the book is that the US, as well as the rest of the planet, is being subjected to three relentless, ineluctable forces: the exponential development of technology, the forces of globalization and concomitant interdependence, and severe climate change, all of which have altered forever the complacent stability to which we had become accustomed. He argues further that the pace of change (speed) as well as the rate of change (exponential) are exceeding in many cases, the capacity of individuals and societies to adapt to change, while politicians--glued to their own narrow ideologies and even narrower political bases--provide only simplistic, quixotic and ultimately futile responses.Though I could have done without the plethora of folksy interjections, as a whole the argument made is compelling, well documented and (for me) fairly frightening. In the closing chapters of the book, Friedman offers several common sense, pragmatic solutions and manages to convey a sense of optimism that eventually, the world will be capable of adapting in a manner that improves global civilization. Given the facts and strong arguments made in preceding chapters however, the optimism seems unfounded;; particularly given the lack of political will for the heterodox approach that the author justifiably feels that circumstances require.I've given this work five stars because it has helped me, more than any other source I've read, to develop a reasonably clear understanding of how we got to where we are. I do not share the author's optimism, but I appreciate the clarity of thought, the ability to synthesize what appear to be disparate trends, and finally, the insightful, cogent analyses.

Tom Friedman has always been a reliable reporter of global trends and this book reiterates some of the points made in “That Use To Be Us.“ Average is no longer sufficient, there are a million people on the earth that can do your job and, therefore, success will depend on engaging in e a lifelong learning process. In this book Mr. Friedman carefully details the acceleration in technology that has not only caused disruption (when a new method makes an old method obsolete) but also dislocation (when things change so quickly society is unable to adapt).People sense the dislocation occurring in this country and the reaction has caused the rise of Bernie Sanders on the left and Donald Trump on the right. According to Mr. Friedman, the wrong response is to try to keep things as they were. This is analogous to keeping your paddle in the water to try to slow down when whitewater kayaking. What you should do is paddle as fast or faster than the current to keep stability. How does one “paddle faster?” Turn AI into IA. Huh? Turn Artificial Intelligence into Intelligent Assistance. Internet tools will help people identify their interests and train them to be proficient in them e.g. the Khan Academy. Companies can also assist their employees in this process, identify employees with desired interests and skills and guide them into future jobs. AT&T is already doing this. Of course, not everyone will be able to succeed this way. Too many people will be dislocated and our current government is woefully unprepared to help people adjust to the new economy. Mr. Friedman suggests an 18 point plan that is a combination of right and left ideas e.g., eliminate the corporate tax which will eliminate corporate tax loopholes and allow corporations to repatriate offshore holdings, revisit Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley to facilitate rational risk taking, establish a Regulatory Review Commission to eliminate regulations that are strangling business development- but also, institute a single-payer health care system, expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and expand free trade while providing wage insurance for those people affected by the loss of their jobs.Mr. Friedman is optimistic but, as other reviewers have pointed out, his optimism doesn’t seem to follow from his narrative. Ultimately, he does not solve the problem posed by John Maynard Keynes in 1928 and reiterated by many recent authors- in a consumer driven economy what do we do when artificial intelligence and robots eliminate so many jobs that people can’t afford to purchase the goods and services produced? That is the most important question for today and tomorrow.

Disclaimer: usually I hate this sort of book. I thought it would be similar to books (or blogs) I've read before that suggest all of these inane questions recommended for getting to know someone. My partner and I tried a couple of those, but it just felt like we were going through an awkward checklist and not really getting anything out of the experience.I found this book accidentally, and it was a complete game changer. Because of the way the questions are asked, it forces you to talk about issues that may not usually arise when dating (or to talk about them at a deeper level that you might have avoided). And not just issues - hopes, dreams, expectations. Things that may or may not come out in pre-marital counseling. I discovered some dreams my now-FI has about marriage that it would have never occurred to me to ask about. And we have been able to face up to some potentially serious issues in a safe, hypothetical environment - which has allowed us to prepare for handling those issues when the stakes are higher. We are just beginning pre-marital counseling now, and, thanks to this book, we already feel like we have a really solid understanding of our strengths and challenges as a couple.As another reviewer said, the intro wasn't that helpful for us. We skipped it and went straight for the questions.Overall, this book can be a great tool if both people are on board. Because some of the questions get pretty deep - questions about control, family boundaries, reasons why someone would or wouldn't (yikes!) want to spend the rest of their life with you - the key to using this book effectively is having both people completely on board. If one person is more committed than the other or isn't really interested in answering the questions fully, I doubt you'll get much out of it.The biggest benefit for us was using this book to establish a pattern of open, honest communication - even when it comes to uncomfortable topics. For that reason alone, I would recommend this book.

This book is AWESOME! Chock full of deep discussion questions that you wouldn't think to talk about! They leave plenty of space below the question to write down your answers if you so desire. My boyfriend and I are working through this book and are really enjoying spending time together and learning about one another. These are all of the activities that I enjoy doing (list them). Of all these things, which ones wouldn't you enjoy doing with me?61. What has been the greatest amount of debt you have experienced?96. Who are the people in your life you've needed to forgive, and how did you accomplish this?

Great book for those who are either in a serious relationship or are newly engaged. It covers a lot of topics that are important in today's relationships. The book basically discusses a situation or a scenario and then each partner is suppose to write down their thoughts and share the idea. I was in a long distance relationship, so we would just flip to a random page, and then discuss the topic. Topics include important subjects like: finances, parenting styles, thoughts on family involvement, careers, hard decisions, etc. Religious and Christian topics are also discussed.

I've recommended this book to no less than 4 friends. I've been married for a year and my husband and I worked through this book while we were dating and engaged. I seriously believe that many people could avoid a bad match if they addressed these questions with a potential spouse before getting engaged. Are the questions easy? Not really, but they are very necessary. Knowing about a persons family life, their values, their spending habits, their parenting approach, and their past relational baggage is not fun stuff, but VITAL if you actually want to avoid divorce. My husband and I just celebrated our first anniversary and we were told the first year is the hardest. It has been wonderful and sooo easy. We've encountered fights and difficulties, but it has been a joy being married to each other. I attribute some of that success to the fact the we covered so much through using this book. I feel that pre-marital counseling could benefit from utilizing this book.

My girlfriend and I are currently going through this book together. Some people mentioned the section at the beginning immediately turning them off of their partner, however that was not the case for my girlfriend and I. None of the issues posed in the front of the book caused us any problems. Some of the questions in the book you may already have discussed (which means you have a healthy relationship where you actually communicate). However, the books that I have not discussed with my girlfriend before buying the book are pretty eye opening. As a religious couple this book definitely places some emphasis on religion which is great.If you are thinking about getting engaged, buy this book.

This book is like a marriage/relationship counselor in a your hands. My girlfriend of 4 years and I started it together yesterday and only got through 12 questions in 2 or 3 hours. It was deeply reflective, introspective, and extrospective - and we've only just began. Fantastic decision and I'm glad we can be so honest with each other - that's the key - the honesty and investment in truthful and authentic answers.
